PTSD Treatment

PTSD Treatment

Learn more about PTSD treatment at Options Behavioral Health System in Indianapolis, IN

Experiencing a traumatic event can cause a great deal of pain. For some individuals that have experienced a traumatic event, over time, the associated fear and anxiety eventually dissipate. For others, however, the fear and anxiety remain constant, or even worsen, as time passes. In such instances, it is possible that these individuals are suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.

Posttraumatic stress disorder is a mental illness that is caused by being exposed to a traumatic event. A traumatic event can be anything that invokes feelings of helplessness and fear, or that may cause an individual to believe that his or her life, or the life of a loved one, is in danger. Examples of traumatic events include domestic violence, car accidents, natural disasters, rape, and military combat.

At Options Behavioral Health, we understand the complexities of PTSD and the degree of anguish that this disorder can cause. We also know that facing the emotions that result from experiencing a traumatic event may seem unbearable. However, we are proud to have helped many people at our center learn to manage the symptoms of PTSD by offering state-of-the-art treatment that is provided by an experienced team of professionals. Options Behavioral Health is an 84-bed, free-standing psychiatric hospital devoted to providing a full continuum of care for adolescents, ages 12 to 18, adults, and older adults who are battling the symptoms of any number of mental health concerns, including posttraumatic stress disorder. At our hospital, individuals can learn the tools they need to successfully achieve a brighter future.

symptoms of small cell lung cancer

Non-small cell lung cancer symptoms

Non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC) may grow slowly over a period of time before symptoms develop. Common non-small cell lung cancer symptoms include:

Persistent coughing, particularly without any known cause
A cough that produces blood or red-colored phlegm (hemoptysis)
Chest pain or painful breathing
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
Fatigue or feeling unusually weak or tired
Hoarseness or wheezing
Frequent upper-respiratory infections, like bronchitis or pneumonia
Bone pain
Other areas of the body may be affected by either the spread or development of NSCLC tumors.

Neurological changes: Lung cancer may spread (metastasize) to the brain. This may cause headaches or even seizures. Numbness or weakness in the arms and legs may occur if a large tumor begins to press against a nerve.

Lumps: In advanced stages, the cancer may spread throughout the lymph nodes. Sometimes, tumors near the skin surface may appear as lumps.

Horner syndrome: Tumors may possibly cause nerve damage. Horner syndrome is a particular set of symptoms associated with nerve damage. The symptoms often affect one side of the face, causing a droopy eyelid and a reduction in the size of the pupil (the dark center of the eye).

Paraneoplastic syndromes: Cancer cells may make chemicals that trigger other reactions, which are collectively referred to as paraneoplastic syndromes. Symptoms may include high blood calcium levels (hypercalcemia), excess bone growth or blood clots.

Small cell lung cancer symptoms

Most of the signs associated with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) are not present until the cancer has progressed. Typically, small cell lung cancer symptoms continue to evolve and worsen as the disease spreads to distant organs.

Early symptoms of small cell lung cancer:

Persistent cough
Chest pain that gets worse with deep breathing, laughing or coughing
Hoarseness
Unexplained loss of appetite and weight
Coughing up blood or rust-colored phlegm
Shortness of breath
Feeling weak and/or tired
Bronchitis, pneumonia or other infections that keep recurring
Wheezing
Symptoms of advanced-stage SCLC:

Bone pain
Headaches, dizziness or limbs that become weak or numb
Jaundice
Lumps in the neck or collarbone region

natural psilocybin

additional details about GMP grade natural psilocybin:

Safety and purity: GMP standards ensure that natural psilocybin is produced under conditions that minimize the risk of contamination or impurities. This includes measures to prevent microbial, chemical, and physical contamination. Stringent quality control processes are implemented to verify the purity and safety of the final product.

Consistency and potency: GMP grade natural psilocybin aims to ensure consistent potency and quality from batch to batch. This involves precise control of manufacturing processes, accurate measurement of psilocybin content, and adherence to strict specifications for the final product. By maintaining consistent quality, patients and researchers can rely on the expected potency and effects of the psilocybin.

Compliance with regulations: GMP grade natural psilocybin aligns with regulatory requirements and guidelines set forth by authorities in the jurisdiction where it is produced or used. This includes compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines related to the production, testing, labeling, and distribution of pharmaceutical substances.

Traceability and accountability: GMP standards emphasize traceability and accountability throughout the supply chain. This involves maintaining detailed records of the entire production process, including the sourcing of raw materials, manufacturing steps, quality control tests, and distribution. This traceability allows for transparency and facilitates product recall or investigation if necessary.

Quality management systems: GMP grade natural psilocybin manufacturers implement robust quality management systems to ensure consistent adherence to GMP principles. This includes establishing quality control procedures, conducting regular internal audits, and implementing corrective and preventive actions to address any deviations or non-compliance.

It's important to note that GMP compliance primarily applies to the production and manufacturing of psilocybin as a pharmaceutical substance. The use of psilocybin itself, whether in therapeutic or research settings, may be subject to separate regulations and oversight.

Additionally, the current legal status of psilocybin varies across countries and regions. While some jurisdictions have decriminalized or legalized psilocybin for medical or research purposes, it remains a Schedule I controlled substance in many places. It is essential to understand and comply with the legal frameworks and regulations specific to your location.

psychedelic mushrooms

In this post, we’ll discuss the most common types of psychedelic mushrooms. Often referred to as ‘magic mushrooms,’ many people consume an excess amount of these fungi. That’s one of the reasons we wanted to publish this article. People for whom mushroom use has become a problem will benefit greatly from a little knowledge. First, you need to know hat psilocybin is the active ingredient in many, though not all, magic mushroom varities. Psilocybin is a naturally-occurring psychedelic compound produced by more than 200 species of mushrooms.  Many of these mushroom species include other psychoactive substances that also act as hallucinogens. We’ll summarize the effects of different types of magic mushrooms in just a bit. However, most of these effects have a powerful effect on the way the user perceives reality.

The Three Most Common Types of Psychedelic Mushrooms
The names of magic mushrooms may seem unfamiliar, but most users have encountered one or more of these common varieties.

1. Psilocybe cubensis
Of all the different types of magic mushrooms, Psilocybe cubensis is one that most users are familiar with. This kind of mushroom has a cap that is usually reddish-brown, with a white to yellowish stem. Mushroom hunters tend to find it in damp, humid climates, often growing on the feces of grazing animals.

2. Psilocybe semilanceata
Also known as the liberty cap, the psilocybe semilanceata is another common psilocybin mushroom. P. semilanceata tends to thrive in areas like moist, grassy fields that are used for cattle. This is a relatively small mushhroom, ranging in color from light yellow to brown and has a pointed cap.

Psilocybe baeocystis
Also known as bluebell or bottle cap is yet another and has a dark brown wavy cap and yellowish or brownish stem when fresh. It can be found in fields and also on rotting logs, peat or mulch.

depression treatment

Psychotherapy for depression treatment

If there is no underlying medical cause for your symptoms of depression, talk therapy can be an extremely effective treatment. What you learn in therapy gives you skills and insight to feel better and help prevent depression from coming back.

There are many types of therapy available. Three of the more common methods used in depression treatment include cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. Often, a blended approach is used.

Individual or group therapy?
When you hear the word “therapy” you might automatically think of one-on-one sessions with a therapist. However, group therapy can be very useful in depression treatment as well. Both group and individual therapy sessions usually last about an hour. What are the benefits of each? In individual therapy, you are building a strong relationship with one person, and may feel more comfortable sharing some sensitive information with one person than with a group. You also get individualized attention.

In group therapy, listening to peers going through the same struggles can validate your experiences and help build self-esteem. Often group members are at different points in their depression, so you might get tips from both someone in the trenches and someone who has worked through a challenging problem. As well as offering inspiration and ideas, attending group therapy can also help increase your social activities and network.

Ruling out medical causes of depression
If you suspect that you may be depressed, and lifestyle changes haven't worked, make an appointment to see your primary care doctor for a thorough checkup. If your depression is the result of medical causes, therapy and antidepressants will do little to help. The depression won't lift until the underlying health problem is identified and treated.

Your doctor will check for medical conditions that mimic depression, and also make sure you are not taking medications that can cause depression as a side effect. Many medical conditions and medications can cause symptoms of depression, including sadness, fatigue, and the loss of pleasure. Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a particularly common mood buster, especially in women. Older adults, or anyone who takes many different medications each day, are at risk for drug interactions that cause symptoms of depression. The more medications you are taking, the greater the risk for drug interactions.

Types of Lung Cancer

What Are the Types of Lung Cancer?

There are two main types of lung cancer: small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A third less common type of lung cancer is called carcinoid.

Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC)
There are two different types of small cell lung cancer: small cell carcinoma and mixed small cell/large cell cancer or combined small cell lung cancer. The types of small cell lung cancer are named for the kinds of cells found in the cancer and how the cells look when viewed under a microscope. Small cell lung cancer is almost always associated with cigarette smoking. Small cell lung cancer is usually treated with chemotherapy.

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)
Non-small cell lung cancer is more common. It makes up about 80 percent of lung cancer cases. This type of cancer usually grows and spreads to other parts of the body more slowly than small cell lung cancer does. There are three different types of non-small cell lung cancer:

Adenocarcinoma: A form of non-small cell lung cancer often found in an outer area of the lung. It develops in the cells of epithelial tissues, which line the cavities and surfaces of the body and form glands.
Squamous cell carcinoma: A form of non-small cell lung cancer usually found in the center of the lung next to an air tube (bronchus).
Large cell carcinoma: A form of non-small cell lung cancer that can occur in any part of the lung and tends to grow and spread faster than adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma.
The above subtypes are the most common, but when your lung cancer tumor is looked at under a microscope, it might reveal even more specific information about the subtype. Work with your doctor to understand exactly which type of lung cancer you have and what it means for your treatment options.

psilocybin medical treatment

what is psilocybin ?
Psilocybin or magic mushrooms are naturally occurring and are consumed for their hallucinogenic effects.

They are psychedelic drugs, which means they can affect all the senses, altering a person’s thinking, sense of time and emotions. Psychedelics can cause a person to hallucinate, seeing or hearing things that do not exist or are distorted.1

The key ingredient in magic mushrooms is psilocybin. When psilocybin is taken, it’s converted in the body to psilocin, which is the chemical with the psychoactive properties.

Benefits of psychedelic mushrooms
Classic psychedelics such as psilocybin and LSD enter the brain via the same receptors as serotonin, the body’s “feel good” hormone. Serotonin helps control body functions such as sleep, ***ual desire and psychological states such as satisfaction, happiness and optimism.

People with depression or anxiety often have low levels of serotonin, as do people with post-traumatic stress disorder, cluster headaches, anorexia, smoking addiction and substance abuse. Treatment typically involves selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which boost levels of serotonin available to brain cells. Yet it can take weeks for improvement to occur, experts say, if the drugs even work at all.

With psychedelics such as psilocybin and LSD, however, scientists can see changes in brain neuron connectivity in the lab “within 30 minutes,” said pharmacologist Brian Roth, a professor of psychiatry and pharmacology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

“One of the most interesting things we’ve learned about the classic psychedelics is that they have a dramatic effect on the way brain systems synchronize, or move and groove together,” said Matthew Johnson, a professor in psychedelics and consciousness at Johns Hopkins Medicine.

“When someone’s on psilocybin, we see an overall increase in connectivity between areas of the brain that don’t normally communicate well,” Johnson said. “You also see the opposite of that – local networks in the brain that normally interact with each other quite a bit suddenly communicate less.”

It creates a “very, very disorganized brain,” ultimately breaking down normal boundaries between the auditory, visual, executive and sense-of-self sections of the mind – thus creating a state of “altered consciousness,” said David Nutt, director of the Neuropsychopharmacology Unit in the Division of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London.

And it’s that disorganization that is ultimately therapeutic, according to Nutt: “Depressed people are continually self-critical, and they keep ruminating, going over and over the same negative, anxious or fearful thoughts.

“Psychedelics disrupt that, which is why people can suddenly see a way out of their depression during the trip,” he added. “Critical thoughts are easier to control, and thinking is more flexible. That’s why the drug is an effective treatment for depression.
